Powering Your Holiday with Sunshine
Investing in Renewable Energy
The Norfolk coast is famous for its wide open skies, making it the perfect place to harness solar energy.
Since 2023, we’ve invested in hundreds of solar panels across the resort, helping generate clean electricity and reduce our reliance on traditional energy sources.
Our Progress:
- 550 solar panels installed in 2023, generating around 150,000 kWh of electricity every year
- 82 additional solar panels added to our new showroom and staff facilities in 2026, generating a further 30,000 kWh annually
- Together, our solar installations help avoid approximately 55 tonnes of carbon emissions every year
Electric Vehicle Charging
Charge Up and Explore
Travelling electric? We’ve made it easy to keep your journey moving.
Searles offers Pod Point EV charging stations in three convenient locations across the resort, providing charging for up to eight vehicles while you relax and enjoy your holiday.
Whether you’re staying for a weekend break or a longer family getaway, you can top up your battery while making the most of our facilities, entertainment and the beautiful Norfolk coast.
Smarter Energy for Comfortable Stays
Designed to Use Less Energy
Our holiday accommodation is continually being upgraded to improve energy efficiency without compromising on comfort.
Features include:
- Double glazing throughout the hire fleet
- Additional insulation to retain heat
- High-efficiency condensing boilers across the majority of our accommodation
- LED lighting fitted in all new holiday homes, with upgrades continuing across the existing hire fleet
Intelligent Heating
In 2026, electronically controlled heating systems were introduced in 15 holiday accommodation units.
These systems help maintain comfortable temperatures while reducing unnecessary energy use, ensuring energy is only used when it’s needed.
Efficient Heating & Cooling
Many of our restaurants, leisure facilities, offices and indoor spaces use modern air conditioning systems for heating and cooling.
These systems are highly efficient, responsive and help reduce our overall environmental impact compared with traditional heating methods.
Every Drop Counts
Saving Water Across the Resort
Simple changes can make a significant difference.
Across our accommodation and facilities you’ll find:
- Water-saving shower restrictors
- Push-button taps
- Sensor-operated taps
- Efficient fittings designed to reduce unnecessary water use
Together, these measures can reduce water consumption by 30–50%, helping conserve one of our most precious resources.
Recycling Made Easy
Helping More Waste Stay Out of Landfill
We want recycling to be as easy as possible for every guest.
That’s why you’ll find:
- Plastic recycling bins
- Cardboard recycling bins
- Dedicated glass recycling points
- Food waste bins across the resort
- Food waste caddies provided in every hire fleet accommodation
By separating waste correctly, we can recycle more materials, reduce contamination and send less waste to landfill.

Why It Matters
Every year in the UK:
- 5.3 million tonnes of waste are sent to landfill
- Only 19% of food waste is composted
- Around 280,000 tonnes of recyclable material ends up in landfill because it has been contaminated
By making sustainable choices during your stay, you’re helping protect the beaches, wildlife and landscapes that make the Norfolk coast such a special place for families to enjoy.
Looking Ahead
Our Commitment
Looking after the environment isn’t a one-off project—it’s part of how we plan for the future.
We’ll continue investing in renewable energy, smarter technology and better ways to reduce waste while creating memorable holidays on the Norfolk coast.
Every improvement helps ensure that future generations can enjoy the same beautiful surroundings that make Searles such a special place to stay.
Thank you for helping us make every holiday a little greener.
